The Interior Innovation Award is an independent, sector-oriented award at the IMM Cologne and is today considered as one of the most renowned design awards in the interior furnishing industry worldwide.

We won the award for our fabrics Aqua and Benu Splash.

Aqua is an innovative, double-width Trevira CS fabric that was developed and manufactured in Germany. The base fabric is a double weave, which receives its three-dimensional appearance by the application of a shrinkable yarn. In the subsequent calendering process, the fabric is flattened again and thereby receives its wave-like structure and elegant shine. Both processes require a high degree of precision. Since the wave-like pattern is not entirely controllable, every meter of Christian Fischbacher’s fabric Aqua is unique.

The exotic jungle motif of Benu Splash was hand-drawn in Christian Fischbacher’s design studio and superimposed on a watercolour. The colourful design is realised in France as an environmentally friendly inkjet print on a technically innovative decorative fabric made from recycled plastic PET bottles. Discarded plastic bottles are collected, crushed, melted down and spun into polyester filament yarns that are subsequently woven into the fabric. With Benu Splash, Christian Fischbacher has managed to unite sustainability with the highest aesthetic demands. All the fabrics in the Benu collection are made from recycled materials and are examples of sustainability and environmentally conscious production.
